ORDER FOR EXPEDITED FILING

TRIAL CHAMBER I (“The Chamber”) of the Special Court for Sierra Leone (“Special Court”) composed of Hon. Justice Pierre Boutet, Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Bankole Thompson and Hon. Justice Benjamin Mutanga Itoe;

SEIZED OF the “First Accused Urgent Motion for Extension of Time to Comply with Order Contained in ‘Decision on Norman Motion to Defer Further Evidence and Closing of His Case to September-December Trial Session’”, filed by Court Appointed Counsel for the First Accused on the 16th of June, 2006 (“Motion”);

CONSIDERING that Article 17(4)(c) of the Statute of the Special Court provides that the Accused shall be “tried without undue delay”;

CONSIDERING that by The Chamber’s “Decision on Norman Motion to Defer Further Evidence and Closing of His Case to September-December Trial Session” of the 14th of June 2006, Court Appointed Counsel for the First Accused was ordered, inter alia, to comply with The Chamber’s orders by the 16th of June 2006 at 4 p.m.;

CONSIDERING that the seventh trial session in this case has closed today, the 16th of June 2006;

CONSIDERING that the fair and expeditious consideration of the Motion requires the imposition of an expedited timetable for the filing of any remaining written submissions;[1]

PURSUANT to Rule 7(C), 26bis, 54 and 73 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence of the Special Court;

HEREBY ORDERS as follows:

1. Any Response by the Prosecution or by Court Appointed Counsel for the Second and Third Accused to the Motion shall be filed no later than Monday, the 19th of June 2006, at 1:00 p.m.;
2. Any Reply by Court Appointed Counsel for the First Accused shall be filed no later than Tuesday, the 20th of June 2006, at 4:00 p.m.;
