ORDER TO PERMIT PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE OPENING OF THE TRIALS












THE TRIAL CHAMBER (“the Chamber”) of the Special Court for Sierra Leone (“the Special Court”) composed of Judge Benjamin Mutanga Itoe, Presiding Judge, Judge Bankole Thompson and Judge Pierre Boutet.

HAVING CONSIDERED the requests from the Chief of Press and Public Affairs for a photographer, Mr. Ben Curtis of the Associated Press, to enter the Court Room in order to photograph the proceedings on 3 June 2004.

PURSUANT TO Rule 81 (D) of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence.

ORDERS AS FOLLOWS:

  1. That Mr. Ben Curtis is authorised to be present in the Court Room on the 3rd of June 2004.
  2. That he should report at the front gate of the Special Court on this date by 9am and in the position to be allocated to him in the Court Room by Special Court Security Staff at 9.20am.
  3. That he is granted permission to photograph within the Court Room from the beginning of the Court Session up to the duration of the Prosecutor’s Opening Statement.
  4. That when the Statement of the Prosecutor is concluded, he must cease all photography within the Court Room.
  5. That he may also photograph the accused persons, provided that the rights guaranteed to them under Article 17 of the Statute of the Special Court are respected and the administration of justice is not brought into disrepute.
  6. That as the only photographer that will have access into the courtroom, he agrees to make available the photographs so taken to the national and international press.
  7. That he supplies the Press and Public Affairs Office of the Special Court with a selection of pictures so taken for internal use.
  8. That these Orders be carried out.
