TRIAL CHAMBER I (“Chamber”) of the Special Court for Sierra Leone (“Special Court”) composed of Hon. Justice Pierre Boutet, Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Bankole Thompson, and Hon. Justice Benjamin Mutanga Itoe;

HAVING CONSIDERED the request from Sylvain Savolainen, a journalist and photo reporter, for permission to photograph the public gallery and the trial proceedings during the open session in Courtroom I, forwarded by the Press and Public Affairs Office of the Special Court on the 24th of May 2006;

PURSUANT TO Rule 81 (D) of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence of the Special Court;

ORDERS AS FOLLOWS:

  1. That the said Sylvain Savolainen is authorised to photograph the public gallery and the trial proceedings during the open session in Courtroom I of Prosecutor v. Norman, Fofana and Kondewa on Thursday, the 25th of May 2006 and/or Friday, the 26th of May 2006;
  2. That, unless specifically authorised, he may not photograph any of the witnesses before the Court or be present in the Courtroom during closed sessions, and must comply with all orders of the Court regarding protective measures for witnesses;
  3. That he may also photograph the accused persons, provided that the rights guaranteed to them under Article 17 of the Statue of the Special Court are respected and the administration of justice is not brought into disrepute;
  4. That the images of the accused persons and any commentary related thereto, shall not be publicly released without a prior authorization given by the Press and Public Affairs Office of the Special Court;
  5. That the use of the images and any commentary related thereto, should not, in any circumstances, be used in any way that could compromise or impair the fairness of the proceedings;
  6. That a representative of the Press and Public Affairs Office of the Special Court shall accompany him at all times while he is in the Public Gallery of Courtroom I.
