The Ecowas Court on Monday, 27th November 2017 ordered the government of the Republic of Sierra Leone to pay former vice president Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana, all renumeration and entitlement since the day of his sacking to date.

The Ecowas Court of Justice presided over by Justice Hameye Foune Mahalmadane and three other judges ruled that the removal of Samuel Sam-Sumana as vice president of the Republic of Sierra Leone by the President on the 17th of March 2015, violates Article 7 of the African Charter on Human and People's Right.

Upon delivering the judgement, the court recognises the right of the President to remove from office a party member acts contrary to the APC constitution, but removing him(Sam-Sumana) from office while his appeal is still pending is a violation of his right to fair hearing. According to the court, such acts is a breach of the applicant human rights. 

The Ecowas Court of Justice ruled in favor of the applicant(Samuel Sam-Sumana), ordering the govenrnment of Sierra Leone to pay all his entitlements and remuneration from the day of his sacking as vice president to date.
